Teen Titans: Beast Boy – 4.5 Star Review

Teen Titans: Beast Boy

by Kami Garcia

Illustrated by Gabriel Picolo

This book was highly anticipated in my household! My two kiddos about lost their minds when this showed up on our doorstop. We collectively loved Teen Titans: Raven and couldn’t wait to read more. Needless to say, all three of us took turns and read this book in single sittings the day it arrived!

If you haven’t read Raven, no worries because Beast Boy’s story stands on its own. Teenager Gar is struggling with his own insecurities. He’s short, scrawny, and desperately wishes to be in the popular group at school. This leads him to do some pretty show off type of things – teenagers am I right?

The story is very engaging and hilarious. I loved his crew of friends and the ethics that Beast Boy himself holds. Lots of shenanigans to keep the reader entertained!  Gar discovers his unique magical abilities in this story which was pretty cool. The graphics were done really well and in a similar fashion to Raven. Soft grays/whites and pops of green throughout, whereas Raven had pops of Purple.

There were some minor transition issues that caused me to knock a half star from my rating, but all in all I was very pleased with this book. My boys had zero complaints, other than the fact that we only have 1 copy they have to share! We also are holding out hope that every Teen Titan gets their own story in this series. Teen Titans: Beast Boy hits the shelves on September 1, 2020!

Now to painfully await the next installment: Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven which comes out in 2021! Thank you, DC, for inviting me to participate in your blog tour and providing me with this book in exchange for an honest review.
